Sustainable conversion of CO2 captured from industrial effluents/atmosphere via hydrogenation will not only serve as an alternative to address global demand for methanol but also solve climate change challenges, provided hydrogen is produced from green sources. This study reports high catalytic performance of 1.0 Pd/Zn molar ratio (8wt% Pd) over CeO2 prepared through sol-gel method. In the tested operating conditions of 180-270 degrees C and 20 bar and at 2400 h(-1) GHSV, 220 degrees C is the best temperature to show a high yield of 114g.kg(cat)(-1).h(-1) methanol, with 14% CO2 conversion and 95% methanol selectivity which revealed superior activity compared to previously reported Pd-based catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol. XRD, H-2-TPR, XPS and BET were also employed to determine the physicochemical properties of the catalyst.
