英文摘要To provide a safe energy and electrical power supply in future besides regenerative and nuclear sources additional fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas will remain indispensable. However, conventional power plant technology basing on air-blown combustion causes emissions of climate gases whose reduction is of top priority worldwide. This conflict of aims can be solved by Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)-technologies, under which oxy-fuel combustion is one of the most promising methods to separate CO2. In this process, fuel is burned with a mixture of oxygen and recirculated flue gas instead of air, to achieve a CO2 rich flue gas. The CO2 is separated after further flue gas cleaning processes. The replacement of the air contained nitrogen by CO2 und H2O leads to an entirely different combustion process. This may result in instabilities and local dilutions of the flame. Therefore, the correct description of this combustion behaviour affords physical and chemical models for this special atmosphere. This will result in the following technical expertise, basic data and models developed within this Transregional Collaborative Research Centre: (1) reliable models based on fundamental knowledge of involved processes and their dependence on parameters and boundary conditions starting from micro scale to scale-interacting phenomena, (2) basic data to predict the heat transfer from the flame to the furnace walls and components within a furnace containing an oxy-fuel atmosphere, (3) a validated and reliable knowledge base to develop and design burners and furnace chambers of power plants for oxy-fuel combustion. In the Transregional Collaborative Research Centre scientists from RWTH Aachen, Ruhr University Bochum and Technical University of Darmstadt work together.
