英文摘要The objective of this project is to convene a scientific workshop that will produce proposals for and enhance coordination between three elements of a new generation of Earth System models known as CMIP6. The three elements of focus for this meeting will be land use, tropospheric aerosols chemistry, and scenarios. This workshop follows on from a 2013 Aspen Global Change Institute workshop where the overall design of CMIP6 was considered. At the 2013 AGCI meeting, a basic structure for the exercise was developed that involved a central set of model experiments and a number of specialized model intercomparison projections (MIPs). MIPs on land use (LUMIP), tropospheric aerosols chemistry (AerChem MIP), and scenarios (Scenario MIP) are all essential to the process of producing integrated scenario analyses of climate change mitigation, adaptation, and impacts. These scenarios will be used by hundreds of researchers and practitioners for impact and integrated assessment analyses.  The extended format and interdisciplinary composition of AGCI’s scientific workshops offer participants the opportunity to engage in deep and focused dialogue while also making crucial connections between and follow-up with new-found colleagues in greater depth than is often the case in shorter duration meeting. The ideas of the meeting extend beyond the workshop by incorporating the findings in the media, scientific journals, on AGCI’s website, and other outlets. The workshop will directly inform the development of CMIP6 and inform a possible 6th Assessment Report for the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.  A primary goal of the meeting is to produce proposals from each of the MIPs represented to allow for coordinated sets of model experiments. Planning within each of these MIPs has begun already, and coordination across the three groups will maximize success.  Approximately 30-35 scientists across diverse disciplines will participate. It is anticipated that the session will include a number of international participants, as well as several postdoctoral and early career scientists. Support for this meeting is being anticipated from NASA, DOE, and the IGBP.
