| 英文摘要 | The proposed project will examine the impacts of environmental change on a folivorous primate from the multidisciplinary perspectives of nutritional ecology, mechanistic biophysical ecology and ecological niche models. We will begin by examining nutritional goals of Lepilemur leucopus in spiny forest habitats in order to map the spatial and temporal variation of nutritional quality and the response of L. leucopus individuals and populations. Secondly, we will develop mechanistic models of the folivorous Lepilemur with nutritional, biophysical, microclimatic and GIS macroclimatic and habitat components with the aim to make robust predictions of the impacts of climate change on mammalian herbivores in Madagascar. We will compare predictions of the mechanistic models with results of correlative species distribution models and test predictions of our mechanistic models in the field. Finally, we will use field experiments to investigate if nutritional value of plants can be manipulated to improve lemur health and population dynamics. Apart from its immediate relevance for the endangered lemurs of Madagascar, this project is significant because it addresses an urgent conservation goal to develop rigorous predictions of the consequences of a changing climate and declining habitat quality for endangered herbivorous mammals. The project is innovative as it combines approaches from distinct ecological disciplines and considers impacts on multiple spatial and temporal scales. By combining the multiple scales, we will be able to extrapolate the model predictions to a wider region to gain novel insights about wild lemurs in future climates and provide the basis for modelling the distribution of other primate and non-primate taxa. |
