英文摘要Intheunderstandingofbiosedimentaryprocesses,researchonbioerosionisgainingmomentum,acknowledgingtheimportantroleofthisprocessincarbonate(re)cycling,andthesignificantimpactofthepresentglobalchange(oceanacidification,oceanwarming,eutrophication)onthisprocess.Inthemarinerealm,investigationsinbioerosionoftropicalcoralreefsarefaradvanced,andresearchontemperatesettingshascaughtuptosomedegree.Studiesaboutbioerosionofpolarcarbonates,incontrast,areanecdotalandmerelydescriptive-despiteprominentcentresofcold-watercarbonateproductionbeingsituatedinthepolarbiogeographicrealm.Thisverygapinresearchisthesubjectofthepresentproposal.Theprojectcomprisesasetoffivecloselyinterlinkedobjectivesthatareultimatelydirectedtowardsabetterunderstandingofthequalitativeandquantitativeroleofbioerosioninpolarcarbonatefactoriesanddepositionalenvironments.Theseobjectivesare(i)toelucidatetheichnodiversityofpolarmicrobioerosion,macrobioerosion,grazing,andattachmentetching,asreflectedinthevariousbioerosiontracesfoundinpolarskeletalcarbonates,(ii)tostudythebathymetricaldistributionpatternofthesebioerosiontracesasafunctionofthephoticzonation,(iii)tostudytheecophysiologicaltolerancelimitsofkeybioerodersinrespecttoseasonalityandtemperaturebystudyingthelatitudinallimitsintheoccurrenceoftheirbioerosiontraces,(iv)todrawacomparisonoftheaboveaspects,bothbetweenpolarbioerosionindifferentsitesintheArctic,aswellasbetweentheArcticandAntarctica,and(v)tocalculateratesofpolarbioerosionforconcludingalatitudinaltransectofcarbonatecyclingexperiments-undertakenbytheapplicantinrecentyears-spanningthetropics,warm-temperate,cold-temperate,andnowalsopolarwaters.TheproposedstudywillprimarilybebasedonexperimentalsubstratesfromsettlementplatformsthatweredeployedintheSvalbardArchipelagoandrecoveredafter10yearsofexposureduringM.S.MERIANcruisesMSM2and55,respectively,andonsamplesofmarineepibenthiccalcifiersthatweresampledduringthesecruises.Foramorecomprehensivepictureonpolarbioerosion,theproposedprojectextendstheanalysisfromtheSvalbardsettingstocomparablematerialfromtheCanadianArctic,andtocarbonatessampledinthepolarSouthernOceanaroundAntarctica.Thiswill,forthefirsttime,allowacharacterisationanddirectcomparisonofbioerosiontracesandtraceassemblagesbetweenthepolarregionsofbothhemispheres,andhelpustogainabetterunderstandingoftheroleofbioerosioninthedynamicsofcarbonate(re)cyclinginpolarcarbonatefactories.
