The ability to select the best quantitative microbial source tracking method for a particular application is paramount. Binary sensitivity and specificity metrics are not adequate to describe the performance of the quantitative methods because the estimates depend on the amount of material tested and the limit of detection. We introduce a new framework for comparing the performance of quantitative fecal source identification methods.
