英文摘要	We present an overview of arts education in which the ideas that should mark the current agenda are reviewed in light of international recommendations and global challenges in education. The objective of the article is to provide an international perspective through the review of the key aspects that appear in the reference documents and studies that have addressed the situation of arts education in formal contexts with a global approach. Following this analysis, we reflect on the present situation of arts education in schooling in contrast to traditional approaches. The current possibilities are highlighted and, especially, the relevance of an approach to education through the arts is deduced. Conclusions are established on the suitability of the arts as a fundamental part of schooling as part of the in-depth review that educational systems require in the face of society's current challenges: digitalization, diversity, migrations or climate change.
