英文摘要 | The northern Qinghai -Tibet Plateau is considered to be the Early Paleozoic orogenic system resulted from the closure of the Proto-Tethys Ocean. The evolution of the Proto-Tethys Ocean is mainly recorded in North Kunlun, Altyn Tagh, Qilian and North Qaidam, where the typical Early Paleozoic ophiolites, arc magmatic rocks, subduction-accretion complex and high -ultrahigh pressure metamorphic rocks are exposed and several Precambrian micro -continental blocks are distributed in between. In the past 20 years, some significant progress and basic consensus have been made in the studies on the Early Paleozoic orogenic system in the northern Qinghai Tibet, which is commonly considered to experience an evolution history including the opening of Proto-Tethys Ocean basins, subduction-accretion, oceanic closure and continental subduction-collision. However, new scientific problems are constantly emerging, and some problems are becoming more controversial. In this contribution, based on investigations of two geological corridors across the Qilian-North Qaidam orogen, we redivided the lithotectonic units related to the evolution of the Proto-Tethys Ocean. Combined with the published data, this article presents some new research progresses of Proto-Tethys orogenic system in the northern Qinghai -Tibet Plateau and discuss several significant scientific issues including: (1) How many sutures are related to the evolution of the Proto-Tethys Ocean in the northern Tibet? And the related question is how many branches of the prototethys ocean basins? (2) What is the subduction polarity of the Proto-Tethys Ocean? i. e., north -dipping, south -dipping or bidirectional subduction? (3) What are nature and origin of micro -continental blocks in the Proto-Tethys Ocean? Most scholars believe that these micro -continental blocks originated in Gondwana, but when the separation from Gondwana is still highly controversial, and it is also difficult to determine which part of the Gondwana those blocks are derived from. (4) How about the opening, subduction initiation and closure of the Proto-Tethys Ocean? (5) Is Early Paleozoic orogenic system resulted from continuous accretion or collision of multiple continental blocks? (6) What is the relationships between the Proto-Tethys and the Paleo-Asian Ocean and the Paleo-Tethys Ocean? |
