英文摘要 | Distribution of the today giant hydrocarbon reserves in the world is associated with the tectonic type of the sedimentary basins and their fill. In this paper, the relation between the tectonics, paleogeography, stratigraphy, eustatic sea-level changes and petroleum systems of the Neo-Tethys in the Zagros fold-thrust belt and foreland basin are reviewed. This information provides a better understanding of the basin architecture, regional sedimentation patterns, and the controls on hydrocarbon accumulations. Tectonic evolution of the Neo-Tethys tracks the Wilson (1966) cycle stages, in which the geologic record of key events is well preserved. The tectonic evolution of the Neo-Tethys through time occurred in 6 stages: (1) stable platform (Early Cambrian to Middle Silurian), (2) triple junction formation (Late Silurian to Early Carboniferous), (3) continental lithosphere rifting (Late Carboniferous to Late Permian), (4) opening and maturation of the Neo-Tethys Ocean (Late Permian to Late Triassic), (5) oceanic lithosphere subduction (Late Triassic to Late Cretaceous), and (6) collisions and final closure (Late Cretaceous to Late Miocene). During early stages of the Neo-Tethys evolution (stable platform, triple junction formation and continental lithosphere rifting), the sedimentary successions are mainly siliciclastic, deposited in continental to transitional to shallow-marine carbonate-evaporite settings. In the opening and maturation of the basin and early subduction stages, the strata mostly consist of shallow-marine carbonate-evaporite sediments and less commonly deep-marine carbonate-siliciclastic sediments. During the collisions stage, the sedimentary successions were dominated by a mixture of carbonate-evaporite and siliciclastic sediments from shallow- to deep-marine settings. The relation between the tectonics and stratigraphy of the Neo-Tethys in the southern Zagros fold-thrust belt and foreland basin shows that the petroleum systems in the region can be divided into three main groups: (1) Early Cambrian to Late Triassic petroleum systems (stable to divergent phase), which host the main natural gas reserves; (2) Late Triassic to Late Cretaceous petroleum systems (early convergent and subduction phase), which host the second largest oil reserves; and (3) Late Cretaceous to Late Miocene petroleum systems (Late convergent and collision phase), which host the largest oil reserves in the area. © 2019 Elsevier B.V. |
