英文摘要Tree transpiration accounts for up to 70% of terrestrial evapotranspiration, making forests a dominant force in the global water cycle. Climate-related shifts in forest transpiration could thus have large impacts on the global water cycle including modification in precipitation, groundwater recharge, renewable fresh water, and feedbacks on climate. The aim of the research project is to understand how the contribution of forests to the exchange of water from the land surface to the atmosphere (transpiration/evapotranspiration) changes with higher air temperatures and lower soil water availability under future climatic conditions. Forest transpiration is driven directly by air temperature and humidity, but also by the physiological responses of tree species and populations to climate variability. Therefore, in a first step, I want to determine the sensitivity in the water-use of the most important European tree species to soil water content (SWC), vapour pressure deficit (VPD) and radiation (PAR) on a continental-scale using sapflow measurements. This will allow us to understand the impacts of the atmospheric and soil component on the hydrological responses of tree species with different ecological strategies and from populations across a large range of environmental conditions. In a second step, I will calculate the contribution of tree transpiration to the ecosystem-level evapotranspiration in order to assess how the exchange of water from the land surface to the atmosphere could be affected by future changes in climate. To reach these goals, I will analyse sapflow data from Pinus sylvestris, Picea abies, and Fagus sylvatica from the European database SAPFLUXNET and additional sapflux sites (e.g. from the swiss fluxnet). In addition, trait data from different databases, such as TRY and FunDivEUROPE will be assembled. The members of CREAF, and in particular the host for the visit, Rafael Poyatos López, have great experience in analysing and interpreting sapflow data, and their expertise will allow me to efficiently and successfully reach my aims.
