英文摘要 | In the article ‘Millennial scale climate oscillations recorded in the Lower Danube loess over the last glacial period’ (Zeeden et al., 2018), we employed rock magnetic and grain size proxy data in combination with luminescence dating and correlation age models to examine millennial-scale climate variability at Rasova, Romania. The absolute values of mass-normalized magnetic susceptibility (MS) contain a systematic error due to incorrect conversion of instrument readings into SI units. The instrument assumes a volume of 10 cm 3 , and we in fact measured samples of 6.4 cm 3 volume. Therefore, the previously reported MS values were too low by a factor of 1.56×. The authors apologize for this error. This error does not affect the main conclusions of our study, whose focus is on relative variations of MS, but it influences absolute MS values and their comparison to other reference datasets (Section 6.3). Here, we provide a corrected version of Fig. 5 to show the relationship between MS at Rasova and in other reference datasets. Most significantly, the χ B at Rasova is actually ~2.30 × 10 −7 m 3 kg −1 . This is slightly elevated compared to average values of 1.7 × 10 −7 ± 0.2 m 3 kg −1 determined by Forster et al. (1994) and (Buggle et al., 2014) for Eurasian loess. These elevated values are interpreted as due to input of sediments with a higher MS from local sources. However, the applied fit does not allow for a precise determination of the χ B .[Figure presented] Corrected Fig. 5: χ lf (ordinate) vs. χ Δ (abscissa), and the “true loess line” for Europe as suggested by Zeeden et al. (2016), based on Forster et al. (1994). Besides pedogenic magnetic enhancement (χ lf ↑, χ Δ ↑), trends of the wind vigour effect (χ lf ↑, χ Δ ↓) and of magnetic depletion are shown (χ lf ↓, χ Δ ↑). Note that only the interval above ca. 1.5 m shows pedogenically enhanced χ. In the interval below (until 3.2 m), numerous samples deviate from the trend marked by the “true loess line”, indicating the contribution of sediment particles with a coarser magnetic fraction and not affected by magnetic enhancement. Thin black lines mark the confidence limit of the fit. The grey arrow indicates the difference between χ B at Rasova and the reference data of Forster et al. (1994). © 2017 Elsevier B.V. |
