Remote sensing of sea ice

英文摘要Sea ice is an important part of the climate system, through its reflection of solar radiation and modification of heat and moisture fluxes. It also affects polar ecosystems and human activities in ice-covered regions. Sea ice concentration is the longest and most complete satellite time series. A nearly-complete daily record of sea ice concentration has been available since late 1978 from a series of multichannel microwave radiometers. Sea ice thickness is another critical parameter for understanding climate change in the polar regions. Microwave imagery can also be used to discriminate first-year ice from multi-year ice during non-melt conditions, because of the differing effects of salinity in the ice on the emission/backscatter signal. Several other parameters are retrievable via satellite, including melt onset and freeze-up dates, snow depth over first-year ice, ice temperature, albedo, and melt pond coverage. © 2015 by JohnWiley & Sons, Ltd.
