Wind Energy Diffusion in Argentina

Wuppertal Paper highlights the key influencing factors and the role of political, economic, and energy systemic conditions

  • News 21.08.2024

For years, Argentina has been facing a profound energy crisis, which not only negatively affects the national budget and the country's scarce foreign exchange reserves, but also impairs the security of the electricity supply. In this difficult situation, renewable energies offer promising prospects for a sustainable improvement. Argentina is a country with abundant wind resources and has the potential to solve its energy problems by utilising wind energy.

However, the path to the successful establishment of this form of energy is determined by numerous factors specific to Argentina. To fully use the potential of wind energy, it is crucial to understand the different factors that influence its distribution. In the Wuppertal Paper, Philipp Schaube (author and PhD student at the Wuppertal Institute) analyses the development of wind energy in Argentina since the 1990s and highlights the role of political, economic and energy system conditions on the diffusion process.

The "Wuppertal Papers" series publishes interim results of studies and research. Wuppertal Paper No. 203 is available free of charge via the link below.
